Second Sunday of Advent 091218

lighting of the second advent candle

Presider:       On this Second Sunday of Advent we hear again the lonely voice of John the Baptist: “Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight”. This is a call of repentance. Sadly, in our hardness of heart and stubbornness of will, we prefer the crooked way to the straight way.

As we light our Second Advent candle may we be encouraged to

accept with John the Baptist the call to always walk in God’s way.

Presider:         Lord Jesus, take away the blindness from our eyes so that we may always walk in your ways.

All:                 Come Lord Jesus, send down your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

Presider:         Christ Jesus, take away the stubbornness of our will so that we may do your will rather than our own.

All:            Come Lord Jesus, send down your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

Presider:           Lord Jesus, take away the hardness of our hearts so that we may treat others in the same friendly way you have treated us.

All:                   Come Lord Jesus, send down your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

Presider: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

All: Amen.
